Based on recent phylogenetic findings, the genus Haworthiopsis
was erected by Gordon Rowley (2013) to accommodate the species formerly included in the subgenus Hexangulares
. It is a very attractive group of plants with an array of plant shapes, leaf shapes, colourations and tuberculation. There are 18 recognised species with immense variation found. The genus is mostly known from the Eastern Cape Province but is also known from the Western Cape, Northern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga provinces. For a list of the Haworthiopsis species
